Dame Sarah Mullally became the first female Archbishop of Canterbury in a historic enthronement ceremony.
Dame Sarah Mullally was formally enthroned as the first female Archbishop of Canterbury in a ceremony at Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday, marking the start of her ministry after a six-day walking pilgrimage from London.
The event, attended by around 2,000 people including Prince William representing King Charles III, featured multilingual prayers in Urdu, Spanish, and Bemba, and included readings from the Archbishop of Westminster and a Holy See representative.
Despite a meningitis outbreak in Kent, no special safety measures were implemented.
Mullally, formerly England’s chief nursing officer, emphasized love, healing, and hope, while the Dean of Canterbury called the moment historic.
