Alaska proposes replacing property taxes on LNG project with annual volumetric tax starting post-2040.
Governor Mike Dunleavy has introduced legislation to replace property taxes on the Alaska LNG project with a 6-cent-per-thousand-cubic-feet volumetric tax, rising 1% annually, to reduce financial barriers.
The project, led by Glenfarne Group LLC with state involvement, aims to build an 800-mile pipeline and liquefied natural gas terminal by 2031, potentially generating $26 billion in revenue over 30 years.
The tax shift, effective after 2040, is intended to encourage investment and support job creation and affordable energy.
However, concerns remain over potential lost local revenue and insufficient financial transparency.
