Wisconsin enacts Gail’s Law, mandating free supplemental breast screenings for women with dense breasts or higher cancer risk, effective Jan. 1, 2027.
Governor Tony Evers signed Gail’s Law on March 19, 2026, requiring Wisconsin health insurance plans, including BadgerCare, to fully cover supplemental breast screenings—such as ultrasounds or MRIs—for women with dense breast tissue or increased cancer risk, eliminating out-of-pocket costs.
The law, named after Neenah resident Gail Zeamer, who died from undetected late-stage breast cancer in 2024, aims to improve early detection by removing financial barriers to follow-up imaging.
It takes effect January 1, 2027, and is expected to benefit thousands of women, as nearly half of women over 40 have dense breasts, which can hide tumors on standard mammograms.
Wisconsin promulga la Ley Gail's, que exige exámenes de mama suplementarios gratuitos para mujeres con senos densos o mayor riesgo de cáncer, vigentes desde el 1 de enero de 2027.
