A UCD employee faces 148 charges for allegedly using malware to steal student data in 2023.
A University College Dublin staff member, Stephen Davis, 53, appeared in Dublin District Court on March 20, 2026, facing 148 charges related to unauthorized access to student data.
Prosecutors allege he used malware to steal passwords and access personal accounts of over 100 victims, including students, during 2023.
The case stems from a 2023 investigation by the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau, following a cybersecurity breach reported by UCD.
Searches were conducted at UCD and Davis’s home in 2024, leading to his arrest in May 2025.
He has not entered a plea, was granted bail with restrictions, and remains employed by UCD.
The case will proceed to trial in the Circuit Court, with the book of evidence still being finalized.
