Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, reinstated by court, says party leaders ignored her, demanding accountability and a special meeting.
Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, reinstated after a High Court ruled her suspension unlawful, says she hasn’t spoken with party leadership since returning to Parliament.
She received only a brief text from co-leader Rāwiri Waititi proposing a 10-minute call that never happened, and no contact with president John Tamihere since November 2025.
Kapa-Kingi called the silence “deafening,” criticized the lack of accountability, and urged a Special General Meeting, citing 55 pages of evidence backing the court’s decision.
While her electorate executive supports her, her standing within the party remains uncertain.
She emphasized her commitment to Te Tai Tokerau, noting the personal toll of the conflict and calling for better leadership and reconciliation.
The party has not commented further.
