On March 19, 2005, Paul Rodgers made his public debut as Queen’s lead singer at the Nelson Mandela 46664 charity concert in George, South Africa, marking the official launch of the Queen + Paul Rodgers collaboration.
The performance featured Queen hits like “We Are The Champions” and “We Will Rock You,” alongside songs from Rodgers’ bands Bad Company and Free.
The partnership, which began with a prior joint appearance at Queen’s 2004 U.K. Music Hall of Fame induction, led to a global tour including North America in 2006.
Rodgers left the group in 2009 to rejoin Bad Company, ending the collaboration.
