Oklahoma filmmaker Sterlin Harjo, a Seminole and Muscogee (Creek) Nation member, will receive the 2026 Peabody Trailblazer Award for his pioneering work in Indigenous storytelling.
Known for co-creating the acclaimed FX series “Reservation Dogs,” which won multiple Peabody Awards, Harjo also created, wrote, and directed “The Lowdown,” a series starring Ethan Hawke that premiered in fall 2025.
A MacArthur Fellowship recipient, Harjo is recognized for expanding representation in media through authentic, culturally grounded narratives.
The award will be presented at the 86th annual Peabody Awards ceremony on May 31 in Beverly Hills.
