Nigeria and UK sign deal to speed deportations, boost migration and trade cooperation.
Nigeria and the UK have signed a landmark agreement to streamline deportations of individuals without legal right to remain, including visa overstayers, foreign criminals, and failed asylum seekers.
The deal eliminates the need for emergency travel documents, enabling faster returns, and includes joint efforts to combat visa fraud, sham marriages, and organized immigration crime.
The UK will also provide £746 million in loans for port upgrades in Lagos, with UK firms set to benefit from contracts.
The agreements were announced during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit, which included ceremonies at Windsor Castle and renewed focus on trade, security, and migration cooperation.
