Ireland's Court of Appeal upholds Randi Gladstone’s 10-year sentence for raping an 18-year-old woman in Dublin, rejecting all appeal claims.
Ireland’s Court of Appeal has rejected an appeal by Randi Gladstone, a 42-year-old Guyanese man, who was convicted in January 2024 of raping an 18-year-old woman in County Dublin just weeks after arriving in the country.
The court upheld his 10-year prison sentence, dismissing claims of trial unfairness, including the withdrawal of his mother’s character testimony, which was a tactical move to avoid revealing prior sexual offenses.
The appeal also failed on arguments about jury instructions and evidence, with the court finding no legal error.
Gladstone had previously been deported from the UK and sentenced to six months for failing to register as a sex offender upon arrival in Ireland.
