India blocks Oscar-nominated film about slain Gaza teen, citing Israel ties, sparking free speech concerns.
The Oscar-nominated film *The Voice of Hind Rajab*, a docudrama about a Palestinian girl killed in Gaza, has been blocked in India by the CBFC, which cited concerns over India’s relations with Israel.
The distributor, Manoj Nandwana, said the ban was communicated verbally without written justification, despite the film’s release in the U.S., UK, France, and Italy.
The CBFC’s decision follows a pattern of rejecting politically sensitive films, drawing criticism from lawmakers and advocates who call it a blow to free expression.
The film remains unavailable in Indian theaters as of March 20, 2026.
