An elderly woman died in a Maine house fire; five others escaped, treated for smoke inhalation.
An elderly woman died in a house fire early Thursday morning in Winn, Maine, near Route 168, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Five occupants escaped before firefighters arrived, but the woman was found dead in the debris by 9:30 a.m. She was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and cause-of-death determination.
The other five survivors were treated for smoke inhalation and released.
The fire’s origin remains under investigation, and nearly 20,000 gallons of water were transported from a dry hydrant due to limited local water sources.
