A 70-year-old man got 18 months in prison for violently attacking a cyclist and his wife after being passed on electric bikes.
A 70-year-old man, Daniel Gallagher, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after deliberately attacking a cyclist and his wife at Filey Brigg Country Park in North Yorkshire.
Prosecutors said Gallagher, driving a Volkswagen Golf, became enraged over being passed by the couple on electric bikes, then drove into the husband, knocking him off his bike, and pursued him on foot and in the car, striking him multiple times, including once while he was on the ground.
The incident, captured on dash cam, caused lasting physical and psychological harm to the couple.
Despite claims of provocation and health issues, the court rejected defenses, calling the actions “lunatic” and potentially life-threatening.
Gallagher, who had no prior convictions, was also banned from driving for 21 months and ordered to pass an extended driving test.
