Starting April 6, 2026, the UK ends its two-child benefit limit, expanding Universal Credit to cover all children.
Starting April 6, 2026, the UK will end the two-child limit on Universal Credit, allowing families to claim the child element for every child, not just the first two.
The change, expected to benefit over 400,000 families, increases the child element to about £3,650 annually per child, with a 3.8% annual uprating.
It aims to reduce child poverty, potentially lifting 450,000 children and 150,000 working-age adults out of poverty by 2030/2031.
The benefit cap remains, limiting full access for around 50,000 families, and a new claimant payment for limited capability will drop from £94 to £50 weekly.
The standard Universal Credit rate will rise 6.2% overall.
