Retro Zone Arcade in Belize, run by Jomarie Lanza, revives 1980s–90s gaming with handmade machines and shilling-based play, offering youth a safe, social space.
Retro Zone Arcade in Belize, opened by Jomarie Lanza, is reviving 1980s and 1990s arcade culture with custom-built machines and a traditional shilling-based play system.
Located near the 88 Shopping Center, it offers a safe after-school space for children, reducing street loitering and giving parents peace of mind.
Lanza, inspired by his childhood, built the machines himself with his father’s help.
The arcade has become a community hub for youth from neighborhoods like Port Loyola and Southside Belize, providing a positive environment for socializing and gaming, with plans to add more classic titles.
