A Nigerian court admitted alleged fraud statements by two former officials, rejecting claims of coercion.
A Nigerian court has admitted statements made by Ali Bello, former Kogi State Chief of Staff, and Dauda Sulaiman in a ₦10.27 billion fraud case, ruling they were voluntary and obtained in compliance with the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
Justice James Omotosho found the defendants were represented by lawyers during recordings, despite claims of duress and threats.
The court rejected arguments that the statements were coerced, noting the defendants failed to call a key witness who could have supported their claims.
The statements, now admitted as evidence, will be used in the trial against the two men, who face charges related to alleged financial misconduct during former Governor Yahaya Bello’s tenure.
The case is set to resume on April 21 and 24, 2026.
