A New Zealand housing program helped 34 families gain affordable homeownership via a leasehold model, with one home remaining available.
A housing programme by Bridge Housing Charitable Trust has helped 34 families in New Zealand’s Waipā district achieve affordable homeownership through a leasehold model separating land and home costs, with only one home left under the initiative.
The programme, previously backed by the government’s Progressive Home Ownership (PHO) scheme, has also operated in high-cost Queenstown.
General Manager Jen Palmer called it a “game changer” for family stability and long-term equity.
Despite strong demand, lack of renewed PHO funding limits future expansion, though applications remain open for the final available home.
