A New Jersey man was convicted of kidnapping and attempted murder after shooting his girlfriend in a 2024 car attack.
A 33-year-old Lindenwold man, Akeem B. Morton, was convicted on March 13, 2026, of first-degree kidnapping, attempted murder, and related charges stemming from an incident on December 15, 2024, in Gibbsboro.
Prosecutors said he kidnapped his girlfriend during an argument in a vehicle, shot her multiple times after she jumped out, and drove her to a hospital.
Police found blood and shell casings at the scene.
Morton, a repeat offender, was arrested at the hospital and faces a mandatory life sentence under New Jersey’s Persistent Offender statute.
Sentencing is set for May 8, 2026.
