Melbourne Airport named Australia’s best for sixth time in seven years, amid major expansion and new international carriers.
Melbourne Airport has been named the best in Australia and the Pacific region for the sixth time in seven years at the Skytrax World Airport Awards, based on public voting.
The airport, which saw a record 1.26 million international passengers in January, is undergoing a $4.5 billion expansion that includes expanding check-in and baggage areas, adding five new international gates, and launching a new pick-up and drop-off zone in September 2026.
Future upgrades will add lounges, waiting areas, and retail spaces.
New international carriers, including Delta Air Lines and Hong Kong Airlines, have begun operations, with Finnair and British Airways set to join soon.
Brisbane Airport ranked second, Sydney Airport third, and Adelaide led the regional category.
Airport CEO Lorie Argus praised the award but noted ongoing challenges with border technology.
