A medical board examined Imran Khan in jail for a serious eye condition; results will guide potential transfer, but prison authorities decide.
A medical board appointed by the Islamabad High Court examined former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Wednesday for his central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition.
The five-member team, including ophthalmologists, cardiologists, and ENT specialists, conducted a two-hour assessment and will submit a report to the chief commissioner.
Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 and is undergoing treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, with a third injection scheduled for March 23.
The court ordered the examination after a petition sought his transfer to Shifa International Hospital, but emphasized that transfer decisions rest with prison authorities under existing rules.
The board’s findings will guide the government’s next steps, while the court also reaffirmed Khan’s rights to legal and family visits and required that his family be informed of serious health issues.
