Malaysia's happiness index rose to 81% in 2026, up five points from 2025, according to an Ipsos survey of 501 adults, placing the country above the global average of 74% and the high-income average of 79%.
The increase is attributed to strong social connections, family ties, and community support, particularly among lower-income groups, where 80% reported feeling happy—well above the global 67% for the same bracket.
Despite global uncertainties, Malaysians showed growing positivity, with Ipsos Malaysia’s Arun Menon citing resilient social bonds as key to national well-being.
Indonesia led the region at 85%, followed by Thailand at 81%, while Singapore remained at 73%.
