A $91M Indigenous-led housing project began in Winnipeg, creating 260 homes with 109 below-market units, set for completion by 2028.
A $91-million affordable housing project named Endayaan Omaa, meaning "home is here" in Anishinaabemowin, has begun construction in Winnipeg’s Naawi-Oodena development on the former Kapyong Barracks site.
Led by Treaty One Nations with federal funding, it will deliver 260 homes, including 109 below-market rental units for students and families.
The project, expected to be completed by 2028, requires at least 30% Indigenous workers, with 20% from Treaty One Nations.
It is part of a larger plan to build about 5,000 homes on the site, supported by the Housing Accelerator Fund to reduce development delays.
