A London man was jailed for three years after scamming three men out of £28,000 via fake gay relationships on dating apps.
A 26-year-old London man, Thomas Godden, was sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding three men of over £28,000 through fake romantic relationships on dating apps.
Godden, who was heterosexual and in a relationship, posed as a gay man to target vulnerable users, including two on the autism spectrum, using fabricated stories about financial hardship to solicit money.
He pleaded guilty in December 2025 to three counts of fraud by false representation and was sentenced in February 2026.
Authorities emphasized the calculated nature of the crime, noting the victims suffered lasting financial and emotional harm, and urged users to be cautious of money requests, pressure to leave apps, or avoidance of video calls.
