Karnataka seeks relaxed building rules near Bengaluru’s airports to boost development and projects.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K.
Shivakumar urged the central government to review strict building height limits around Bengaluru’s airports and military sites, saying they hinder urban development, reduce government revenue, and deter high Floor Area Ratio (FAR) projects.
He cited Hyderabad and Mumbai as examples of cities with more flexible rules and noted that restrictions are delaying key projects like the Skydeck and the Bengaluru Business Corridor.
Following a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, the Centre agreed to study international standards and consult the Defence Ministry, with a follow-up meeting expected within a week.
The state is also evaluating sites for a second international airport, as requested by the Centre.
