Jamie and Nicky Gaddum won a top New Zealand environmental farming award for their sustainable beef and lamb operation.
Jamie and Nicky Gaddum of Matangi Station in Tukituki have won the East Coast Regional Supreme Award in the 2026 Ballance Farm Environment Awards for their sustainable beef and lamb operation.
Their business, Matangi Prime Meat, uses elite genetics, on-farm systems, and dry ageing to produce premium grass-fed and chicory-finished meat.
They were recognized for environmental stewardship, including riparian planting and soil management, and for rebuilding after Cyclone Gabrielle with a new butchery and German-technology ageing facility.
The Gaddums will compete for the national Gordon Stephenson Trophy in Christchurch.
A community group, Tikokino, also received an award for restoring 46,000 hectares using science and Te Ao Māori principles.
