Ireland's top court allows extradition of two men to Northern Ireland over a 1975 murder and prison escape, despite their long residence in Ireland.
Ireland's Court of Appeal has ruled that two men, John Edward McNicholl, 73, and Seamus Christopher O'Kane, 74, can be extradited to Northern Ireland over the 1975 murder of RUC officer Robert John McPherson and an attempted murder.
Both are accused of involvement in an INLA attack and escaping from Maze Prison in 1976.
Despite living in Ireland for decades, the court rejected claims based on their long-term residence, family lives, or health, affirming Ireland's legal duty to honor extradition agreements with the UK.
The decision allows them to appeal to the Supreme Court, which has stayed their extradition pending the appeal.
