Over the past two years, Ireland paid more than €17 million in welfare benefits to people no longer living in the country, with €8.2 million recovered in 2025 alone.
Child benefit made up the largest share, totaling over €3.4 million in incorrect payments to nearly 1,900 recipients, up from €2.5 million the previous year.
