India's election body demands new report on March 14 Kolkata violence, questioning police and central forces' inaction during PM Modi rally.
The Election Commission of India has asked Kolkata Police to submit a new report on violent clashes on March 14 in North Kolkata near West Bengal minister Dr. Sashi Panja’s residence during Prime Minister Modi’s rally.
The ECI raised concerns about the initial report’s failure to explain why Central Armed Police Forces, deployed in advance, were not used to manage the unrest.
Nine people have been arrested.
The BJP claims its supporters were attacked en route to the rally, while Trinamool Congress alleges BJP activists threw stones at Panja’s home and assaulted her.
The BJP denies the allegations, saying Trinamool workers threw bricks.
The ECI is focusing on accountability and security force deployment during the incident.
