Indian Railways has launched QR code-enabled staff ID cards and traceable food packets to combat unauthorized vending and improve food safety. The codes verify catering staff through Aadhaar, medical fitness, and police checks, while food packets display kitchen origin and manufacturing dates. Meals now come from designated base kitchens with CCTV, branded ingredients, and FSSAI certification. Regular audits, sampling, and customer surveys ensure compliance, supported by Food Safety Supervisors and ongoing staff training.
