India appoints Vikram Doraiswami as its new ambassador to China, effective March 19, 2026.
Vikram Doraiswami, a 1992 batch Indian Foreign Service officer and current High Commissioner to the UK, has been appointed India’s next Ambassador to China, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on March 19, 2026.
He succeeds Pradeep Kumar Rawat and brings extensive experience, including postings in Beijing, Seoul, and Bangladesh, as well as senior roles in multilateral diplomacy and international summits.
Fluent in Chinese, Doraiswami studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and has served in key positions at the Ministry of External Affairs, including leading the Indo-Pacific division and coordinating the 2012 BRICS Summit.
His appointment reflects India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties with China amid complex regional dynamics.
