Idaho launches bipartisan probe into sexual misconduct by prison staff after reporting revealed systemic failures in handling abuse claims.
In March 2026, Idaho’s Joint Legislative Oversight Committee, backed by bipartisan support, launched an independent investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against prison staff in women’s facilities, following InvestigateWest’s reporting.
The probe, led by the Office of Performance Evaluation, will examine prevention, reporting, investigation, and response systems across correctional facilities to identify systemic failures, with authority to subpoena records.
The move follows revelations that the Department of Corrections inconsistently tracked abuse claims, dismissed them without review, and attempted to limit information access, though some policy updates and reversals have since occurred.
The investigation aims to assess whether current systems adequately protect vulnerable inmates and ensure accountability.
