Humayun Kabir, expelled from the Trinamool Congress, launched his Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) and announced plans to contest 182 of West Bengal’s 294 assembly seats in the 2026 elections, with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) joining as an ally for about eight seats.
Kabir confirmed he will run from both Rejinagar and Naoda in Murshidabad, directly challenging Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her Bhawanipur seat.
The party has revealed 18 candidates so far, including Manisha Pathak Pandey and a businessman also named Humayun Kabir.
The move follows Kabir’s suspension over controversial remarks about building a Babri Masjid replica in Murshidabad.
