The Government Dental College and Hospital in Ahmedabad has emerged as a national leader in oral cancer prevention, identifying 3,023 pre-malignant cases in 2025 during a state-wide campaign that screened over 12,900 people across 33 districts.
Supported by Gujarat’s preventive healthcare policy, the initiative involved 282 dentists, 265 health talks, walkathons, tobacco cessation efforts, and outreach to vulnerable groups via mobile teams and 45 special camps.
ASHA workers were trained for community-level detection, while schools received preventive treatments.
Over 2.24 million OPD visits were recorded in 2025, with sustained high demand into early 2026, signaling growing public awareness and positioning GDCH as a replicable model for nationwide oral health care.
