Founding members of Australian Crawl sue over trademark ownership, claiming former drummer’s registrations were invalid.
Founding members of the 1980s Australian rock band Australian Crawl, including James Reyne and Simon Binks, have filed a Federal Court lawsuit challenging former drummer Bill McDonough’s ownership of the band’s trademarks.
McDonough registered the name in 1990 and 1994, years after leaving the band in 1983, without consulting the original members.
The founders argue the registrations were invalid due to lack of consent and seek recognition of their rights to the trademark.
They stress the legal action is not about diminishing McDonough’s musical contributions, particularly those of his late brother Guy, but about securing rightful access to the band’s intellectual property.
McDonough has not yet responded to the court application.
