Extremist leader Anjem Choudary upheld in 28-year life sentence for leading al-Muhajiroun and aiding ISIS recruitment.
Extremist preacher Anjem Choudary has lost his appeal against a life sentence with a 28-year minimum term for leading the banned group al-Muhajiroun, with the UK Court of Appeal upholding the 2024 conviction.
The court ruled the trial was fair and the sentence appropriate, citing Choudary’s long-standing role in promoting extremist ideology and enabling followers to join groups like ISIS.
Though he did not directly carry out attacks, evidence showed his leadership contributed to terrorism-related activities.
His co-accused, Khalid Hussein, also had his appeal rejected.
Choudary, now 59, will not be eligible for parole until at least age 85.
