The DOJ sued to revoke Nigerian-born Kazeem’s U.S. citizenship, alleging he fraudulently obtained it by hiding a massive identity theft and tax fraud scheme.
The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil complaint to revoke the citizenship of Emmanuel Oluwatosin Kazeem, a Nigerian-born man, over allegations he obtained U.S. citizenship through fraud.
The lawsuit, filed in March 2026, claims Kazeem concealed a major identity theft and tax fraud scheme that targeted over 259,000 victims, resulting in more than $11.6 million in fraudulent refunds.
Authorities allege he used stolen personal data, including from a breached Oregon database, to file over 10,000 fake tax returns between 2012 and 2015, with at least $2.1 million sent to Nigeria.
Kazeem, convicted in 2017 and released in 2024 after serving six years under a presidential commutation, is accused of entering a sham marriage and training associates to bypass IRS security.
The DOJ argues his citizenship should be stripped because it was obtained through deception and concealment of criminal conduct.
The case is ongoing in federal court.
