British hatmaker Christys, founded in 1773, was rescued from liquidation in 2026 and will relaunch with sustainable, UK-made hats.
A 253-year-old British hat brand, Christys, founded in 1773 and based in Witney, Oxfordshire, entered liquidation in February 2026 but was rescued by London-based hatmaker Laird Hatters, owned by Alex and Zofia Torun-Shaw.
The couple plan to relaunch Christys online using remaining stock and new designs based on historic styles, with production returning to London and Hertfordshire.
They aim to rebuild the brand as a sustainable, “Made in London, England” label using British-made fabrics and traditional craftsmanship, honoring its legacy while emphasizing quality and local manufacturing.
