The BRACE project launched in Nukualofa, Tonga, on March 19, 2026, with an inception workshop marking the start of a five-year, $46.7 million effort to build climate-resilient schools.
Led by Tonga’s Ministry of Education and Save the Children, the initiative, funded by the Green Climate Fund and co-financed by the Global Partnership for Education, targets 100 remote Tongan schools and 850 schools across Cambodia, South Sudan, and Tonga.
It aims to strengthen education systems against cyclones, flooding, sea level rise, drought, and heatwaves, directly benefiting over 13,000 people and indirectly supporting more than 8 million.
The project will integrate climate adaptation into school infrastructure, policies, and teaching, empower educators, and enhance community preparedness to ensure safe, continuous learning amid worsening climate hazards.
