Wisconsin Senate passes $14.6M bill to fund UW-Madison athletics, enabling NIL payments, with bipartisan support.
The Wisconsin Senate narrowly passed a bill allocating $14.6 million annually to UW-Madison to cover athletic facility debt, freeing funds for student-athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) compensation, after a 17-16 vote.
The legislation, which also provides $200,000 yearly to UW-Green Bay and UW-Milwaukee, exempts NIL deals from public disclosure and clarifies they are not employment relationships.
It passed with bipartisan support in the Assembly and now heads to Governor Tony Evers, amid debate over public funding use and transparency.
