UK PM Starmer apologizes for appointing Lord Mandelson as US ambassador amid Epstein ties controversy and misconduct allegations.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer faced backlash during Prime Minister’s Questions over appointing Lord Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador to the US, with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch accusing him of failing to verify Mandelson’s past ties to Jeffrey Epstein despite claiming he believed Mandelson lied.
Starmer apologized, called the appointment a mistake, and cited an independent review, while also criticizing Badenoch over foreign policy and her shadow justice secretary’s remarks on Muslim prayer.
Mandelson was arrested in February 2026 on suspicion of misconduct in public office linked to alleged leaks to Epstein, a concern flagged in a December 2024 Cabinet Office report.
He was later released from bail and received a £75,000 taxpayer-funded payout after being dismissed in September 2025.
El Primer Ministro del Reino Unido Starmer se disculpa por nombrar a Lord Mandelson como embajador de los Estados Unidos en medio de la controversia de los lazos de Epstein y las acusaciones de mala conducta.
