Supreme Court extends Sheena Bora trial deadline by nine months, mandates timely conclusion.
The Supreme Court granted a final nine-month extension to conclude the Sheena Bora murder trial, prohibiting any further delays.
The March 16 order, issued by Justices MM Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh, followed a request from the trial judge citing the case’s complexity.
The high-profile case involves allegations that Sheena Bora, daughter of businessman Peter Mukerjea, was murdered in 2012 by her mother Indrani Mukerjea, driver Shyamvar Rai, and Sanjeev Khanna, with the body reportedly burned and dumped.
Rai confessed in 2015, leading to arrests of the accused.
Over 90 of 237 prosecution witnesses have testified, and all remain on bail.
The court also allowed Indrani to seek permission to travel abroad.
The trial will resume daily from March 10.
