flag A diet high in veggies, berries, nuts, fish, olive oil, and poultry is linked to slower brain ageing in older adults.

A new study links the MIND diet—rich in vegetables, berries, nuts, fish, olive oil, and poultry—to slower brain aging. Among 1,647 adults aged 60, those closely following the diet showed significantly less grey matter loss and ventricular enlargement over 12 years. Each three-point increase in adherence correlated with a 20% reduction in brain aging, equivalent to a two-and-a-half-year delay, plus 8% less tissue loss. Benefits were stronger in older adults, those who were active, and those with healthy weights. Researchers caution the study is observational and cannot prove cause and effect but supports the role of diet, physical activity, and other healthy habits in reducing dementia risk.
