The Boston Red Sox have signed veteran reliever Tommy Kahnle to a minor league contract with a $1.5 million base salary and up to $250,000 in performance bonuses if he makes the major league roster.
The 36-year-old right-hander, who played for the Tigers, Yankees, and other teams, is expected to begin the season in Triple-A Worcester.
Kahnle, known for his high changeup usage, struggled in 2025 with a 4.43 ERA and career-low strikeout rate, but remains a potential bullpen asset due to past success and recent performance with Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic.
The deal, finalized just before Opening Day, gives him a chance to extend his MLB career into a 12th season.
