Nigeria shut down 400+ fake investment platforms, warns citizens to verify registrations before investing.
The Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has shut down over 400 fraudulent investment platforms in the past three years, director-general Emomotimi Agama said at a Lagos forum.
The SEC has intensified enforcement, launched the “SEC Scam Alert” initiative, and urged all 2,000 market operators to display registration details.
Agama warned Nigerians to verify both operator and product registration before investing, as unregistered entities lack legal authority.
The commission has arrested and prosecuted individuals behind scams.
