New Zealand police uncover transnational crime ring tied to U.S. hitman in 2024 courier murder, involving drug trafficking, corruption, and money laundering.
A New Zealand police investigation into the 2024 murder of courier Tuipulotu Vi has uncovered a transnational crime group linked to a suspected U.S. hitman, accused of trafficking methamphetamine and firearms, bribing prison and bail officials, and laundering money through businesses.
The group, involving both New Zealand and U.S. citizens, allegedly continued operations after key arrests in June 2025, including a 35-year-old Auckland man on electronic monitoring who imported nearly 18kg of meth in July 2025 and was rearrested in September for violating bail conditions.
Police allege the group used corrupt airport and postal staff, luxury hotels, and Airbnbs to coordinate activities and evade justice.
Nine people have been charged in connection with the case, part of Operation Block and linked to Operation Mexted, with one defendant facing life imprisonment in the U.S. on a separate murder charge.
The full details remain partially suppressed.
