Los Angeles County has approved a motion to study creating a regional wildfire mitigation authority for the Santa Monica Mountains, following the 2025 Eaton and Palisades fires that burned over 23,000 acres.
The effort, led by the Department of Regional Planning and Fire Department, will assess coordination, vegetation management, governance, and funding, with findings due in 90 days.
The county also launched a public survey through April 24, 2026, to gather recovery feedback and continues weekly "Fire Recovery Thursdays" job fairs at 18 job centers, offering survivors temporary jobs at $20 per hour, training, and support services.
