Kepra Udup Bang was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in a 2019 Calgary attack after DNA linked him to the crime, ending a nearly seven-year investigation.
Kepra Udup Bang, 26, was convicted of aggravated sexual assault in the 2019 attack on a woman in Calgary’s Forest Lawn area, after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
The victim, M.M., was found unconscious with severe injuries, including facial fractures, following a brutal assault.
Despite Bang’s claim of consensual sex, a judge ruled the evidence— including DNA on the victim’s body and a wristband near her—did not support him, and concluded the violence negated any prior consent.
The case remained unsolved for nearly seven years until DNA from 2019 matched Bang in 2024.
A presentence report has been ordered, and sentencing is scheduled for next week.
