A jury was dismissed from Liam O'Leary's murder trial in the 2024 stabbing death of John Casserly in County Mayo, with the case rescheduled for April 15, 2026.
A jury has been discharged from the trial of Liam O'Leary, 33, accused of murdering John Casserly, 58, at a housing unit in Ballina, County Mayo, between October 23 and 24, 2024.
The trial at the Central Criminal Court was halted due to an "unfortunate situation," prompting Judge Melanie Greally to excuse the jurors, who will not serve on a jury for five years.
Prosecutors had described the attack as "almost indescribable savagery," with Casserly found dead from 27 stab wounds and multiple blunt and incised injuries.
The case is set to be mentioned again on April 15, 2026.
