Human remains found in Tennessee in 1981 identified in 2025 as William Thomas Green, last seen in 1977.
Human remains found in Blount County, Tennessee, in April 1981 have been identified as William Thomas Green, a Knoxville-area man born in 1942, through forensic genetic genealogy testing conducted in March 2025.
The body, discovered in East Miller’s Cove, was initially unidentified, with authorities estimating the victim was a white male aged 20 to 35.
After a DNA sample from the remains was analyzed by a Texas lab using familial DNA matching, investigators confirmed Green’s identity by comparing it to a relative’s DNA.
Green was last seen by family around 1977.
The case remains open, and authorities are seeking information about his final days.
The public is urged to contact the Blount County Sheriff’s Office or the 24-hour Crime Hotline with any tips.
