Heavy vehicles banned on SH1 north of Auckland Bridge 6 Apr, 2026, for gantry removal.
On Easter Monday, 6 April 2026, between midnight and 5 a.m., heavy vehicles will be banned from traveling north on State Highway 1 past the Auckland Harbour Bridge due to the removal of an aging, redundant sign gantry.
A full northbound closure will be enforced, requiring heavy vehicles to divert via the Western Ring Route (SH16 and SH18) and rejoin SH1 at Constellation Drive.
Light vehicles will be detoured along Stafford Road, Queenstown Road, and Onewa Road, with traffic management ensuring only light vehicles use the route.
Work begins Easter Sunday at 10 p.m. with lane restrictions, and the closure is weather-dependent, particularly due to wind.
The project aims to minimize disruption by occurring during low-traffic hours and to complete the gantry removal quickly.
