A Florida hospital sues a discharged patient who stayed five months past her release, seeking court-ordered removal to free beds.
Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare has sued a former patient who remains in a hospital room five months after being formally discharged on October 6, 2025, despite no longer needing acute care.
The hospital says it made repeated efforts to assist her with discharge, including coordinating with family and offering non-emergency transportation for identification, and issued a written notice on November 24 warning of legal action.
The lawsuit, filed in early March, seeks a temporary injunction to compel her departure, citing the need to free up limited bed space and prevent diversion of staff resources.
A hearing is scheduled for March 30.
The case occurs amid the hospital’s planned transition to a state university-run academic medical center.
